Beverly Allen Selenicereus

Biography

Beverly worked as a graphic designer and illustrator, before moving to botanical art practice. She has shown annually at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney ‘Botanica’ Exhibition since 1999, and exhibits internationally.

Her work is held in private collections including the Shirley Sherwood Collection, the Peter Crossing Collection and the Isaac Sutton Collection as well as at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation USA, the Royal Botanic Gardens Herbarium Library at Kew Gardens, the Royal Horticultural Society Lindley Library, the Highgrove Florilegium for the Prince of Wales’ Charitable Trust, The Transylvania Florilegium for the Prince of Wales’s Foundation Romania and The Florilegium, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney.

In 2005 she co-founded and was president of the Florilegium Society at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney until 2021 and still serves on the committee. During this period the artist members of the Society have donated over 135 contemporary botanical paintings to the Royal Botanic Garden and Domain Trust collection; published The Florilegium Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney: Celebrating 200 years in 2016 and exhibited at the Museum of Sydney and the Shirley Sherwood Gallery, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. The Society published Botanic Endeavour: The Florilegium Society celebrates the Banks and Solander Collections in 2020 and exhibited this second project at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney in 2022.

Beverly is an Honorary Member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society and the Botanical Art Society of Australia. She is a Patron of the Hampton Court Palace Florilegium Society.
